RSA Regional Sports Facility Sargans

The new regional sports facility in Sargans is a one- to two-story timber structure built as a skeletal frame on a reinforced concrete floor slab and driven pile foundation for a quadruple gymnasium. The primary structural system consists of linear glued laminated timber beams, while the secondary structural system is composed of high-strength planar timber panels.

Horizontal loads from wind and seismic forces are transferred through frames formed by columns and slabs, as well as through shear walls. The subsoil is extremely sensitive to settlement. The hall is partially founded on existing timber piles. In areas of high loads, the existing foundation was supplemented with a new floor slab and new piles.
