Office and Commercial Building, Binzstrasse 29, Zurich

A new architectural eye-catcher is being built in the up-and-coming Binz industrial district in Zurich's Wiedikon district. The building, with a total of six upper floors and one basement level, will be used as an office and commercial building.

The upper-floor slabs consist of prefabricated ribbed panels spanning over 8.4 m, resting on cast-in-place concrete beams. The inclined facade columns transfer the loads from the floors, which taper towards the top, into the basement without the need for transfer structures.

The load-bearing structure remains largely visible, which places high demands on the quality of the exposed concrete. In addition to the internal load-bearing structure, two facade walls, the external stairs, and the planters are being constructed in cast-in-place concrete, all of which are intended to remain as exposed concrete surfaces.
