Connecting Passarelle Coop Distribution Center, Schafisheim

A two-story connecting passarelle with a length of 162 m connects the new logistics and production building across Rupperswilerstrasse with the existing buildings. The lower level serves as a pedestrian connection while the upper level is used for transporting pallets.

The static system of the passarelle is a two-span beam with span widths of 75.6 m and 67.2 m. The two-story cross-section of the passarelle is 7.3 m wide and 8.3 m high (system dimensions). The main load-bearing structure is executed in steel and consists of two truss panels in the longitudinal walls and cross beams at the floor and roof levels. The secondary load-bearing structure of the three floor levels consists of prefabricated concrete ribbed slabs. Reinforced topping concrete connects the concrete elements to continuous slabs.

The bridge was welded together on site at ground level in four main elements in a field workshop. The assembly of the elements was carried out using two mobile cranes by joining the elements for each span individually in the air and lowering them onto the piers.
